One phone call away from free web hosting

Today I was pointed to free hosting for students on a budget! Actually, you don't have to be a student.

The details: Free Windows websites to Developers and Designers for Microsoft-based hosting software and technologies such as MS Expression, MS Visual Studios, and MS Silverlight.  The Free hosting program – based on IIS 6 and Windows Server 2003 – will run through January 2010.  No credit card is required.  This offer is not available online – please call Verio's 800-932-7483 to receive your free website.

Research conference for undergraduate women in CS

Carnegie Mellon will be hosting a "research-focused" conference for undergraduate women, Oct. 5-7, 2007, "OurCS: Opportunities for Undergraduate Research In Computer Science." The program will be very "hands-on" with small teams of students working throughout the week-end on exciting exploratory research problems led by researchers from industry and academia. In addition, students will be able to meet women computer scientists in many stages of their careers. Fran Allen, 2006 Turing Award Winner, will be among the stellar cast of research team leaders and role models who will be spending the weekend with us.

Registration is $25, but the conference will provide lodging and meals for the participants. This sounds like a great opportunity for women considering graduate school (even if just a little. :-)

    Registered for Grace Hopper

I registered for the Grace Hopper Conference today. While I would normally book way in advance, I procrastinated this since it's summer and all. Unfortunately the hotel is full for one of the nights I'll be there. :-/ I was a little surprised that it's full almost two months in advance, but I was happy to book a hotel across the street. Last year I didn't need a car at GH, so I'd prefer not to get one this time. I don't have a flight yet, but I plan to fly in on Wednesday and leave on Saturday. YAY!!
